Digital Print 360 – The Digital Print Guru
The holidays are upon us, and as a result this will be the last issue we publish for 2009; our next issue will resume on January 5th, 2010.
But before we sign off, I want to take a few moments to tell you what we have in store for 2010.
First, we have launched our DigitalPrintGuru.com website for our consulting work for digital printers. Our primary focus is to help printing companies make the right decisions for print and workflow solutions. Because we provide the services to you and not for the vendor, we aren’t limited to looking at one particular type of press or solution – just the one that fits your own business model.
Already we are providing services for two companies who want to upgrade their digital production copiers to digital presses. We aren’t always liked by the vendor manufacturer, but our clients come away knowing they were able to drive equipment, click costs or consumables down, saving pennies which add up to big dollars.
Our second project is also going to be a fun one next year. It’s called the Social Print Experiment. The idea behind it is an experiment to see if by using social media and print 2.0 tools, we can create a startup company that has zero revenue and minimal staffing to $500K in annual sales with a minimum 18% profit margin by the end of the 2010.
We have already selected a digital press for the experiment, and acquired minimal production space for our shop. We still need to decide on a web-to-print solution, a business development solution, and a print MIS solution before we go live on January 4th. Using these tools, we’ll blog daily on our progress and share best practices throughout the year. We’ll also share our books, our profit margins, and our revenue per employee. About the only thing we won’t show is who we’re doing business with.
I expect that to start, we’ll have minimal revenues and be running in the red for quite a few months. By the end of the year, though, I expect that we will show a profit (and in turn, show you some live results that you can apply towards your own business). Consider it a print reality show, with video to come shortly after we launch. The website for it will launch on January 4th as well, and you’ll all have a front row seat to see it.
Overall, our plans for 2010 are still taking shape, but I guarantee it’s going to be a fun and informative new year! I hope that you’ll continue to stop by and see what progress we’re making with these new projects.
